I am surprised that Hollywood still has that notion … Spike Lee made movies with mainly black cast and at least one with completely black cast. (I didn’t even notice until I read it somewhere afterwards.) And his movies are very popular.

True but he hasn’t made one for a while now, and didn’t herald a “new wave” of Black Directors until relatively recently. Perhaps it’s a point that needs to be restated periodically to stick in their minds?

I am still sad that colour still is a topic. Even in the positive aspect it has an separating effect. For example when somebody says they have read a fantastic book, by the way, the author is a black woman. Why would that have to be pointed out? Is it exceptional that a black woman writes a fantastic book? No, it isn’t.
I don’t know if I get across what I mean.

Class and “race” have always been important to the British (hard to have a Colonial mentality without paying attention to these constructs).

It’s more cultural than systemic in the manner of the Third Reich, and yes, things have improved a lot in the last 40 years. But there is still a section of the population the thinks that way and whose opinions only change profoundly over a much longer period. Sadly a lot of them are quite powerful…
