The book “The Fabric of Reality” by David Deutsch represents an attempt to comprehend the nature of reality, based on the latest advancements in quantum physics and the many-worlds theory. Deutsch, being an advocate of Hugh Everett’s many-worlds interpretation, argues that quantum mechanics implies the existence of parallel universes.

Assumably the use of herbs and trees in cases of wounds and ailments was, as has been observed in several other cultures, partly based on the observation of animals.
This is mentioned by several classic European authors (such as Plinius and Aristoteles) and cited and confirmed by medieval authors such as Brunfels. The study of this kind of phenomena has long been neglected but it has recently gained new interest and a new name: Zoofarmacognosy
This is an interesting clip borrowed from the “Peculiar Potions” episode of BBC’s series “Weird Nature” – A Jaguar in the Peruvian rain forest eats Yage (banisteriopsis caapi), a vine containing hallucinogenic chemical harmaline and other beta carbolines, used by natives in a ritualistic ceremony involving Ayahuasca. (it’s the one of the two ingredients, the other contains usually DMT)
The Babylonian map of the world is the oldest map of the world, in the world. Written and inscribed on clay in Mesopotamia around 2,900-years-ago, it is, like so many cuneiform tablets, incomplete. However, Irving Finkel and a particularly gifted student of his – Edith Horsley – managed to locate a missing piece of the map, slot it back into the cuneiform tablet, and from there set us all on journey through the somewhat mythical landscape of Mesopotamia to find the final resting place of the ark. And yes we mean that ark, as in Noah’s ark. Although in the earlier Mesopotamian version of the flood story, the ark is built by Ziusudra.

Chilly & Milly is an animated documentary exploring my father’s chronic health problems as a diabetic with kidney failure, and my mother’s role as his stalwart caretaker. Shot in miniature, it combines 3D modeled/composited characters with cinema verité scenes from a documentary I shot over 13 years ago.
It is a story of love and resiliency in the face of hardship, turmoil, and the encroaching death of a loved one.
The short film premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, won the Jury Award at the 2022 PBS Short Film Festival, and won a Webby Award in 2024 for Best Art Direction.
For information on how to screen it at your festival, please email the director at william.d.caballero@gmail.com, or visit the project website at wilcab.com/chilly-and-milly
Who gets to win power and how do they keep it – and lose it? Who is excluded from power? Does power always corrupt or are there examples of leaders who have maintained their integrity while in authority? How does the nature of power vary across different times and cultures? These are the questions that Mary Beard and Rory Stewart addressed when they came to Intelligence Squared in November 2023.
Did you know that there are massive whale skeletons under the sand in the Egyptian Sahara desert?
Approximately 37 million years ago these incredible prehistoric creatures swam around in the Tethys Ocean at what is today the dry and windy West-Egyptian Sahara desert.
A graveyard that’s been discovered there, filled with fossilized whalebones actually demonstrates the evolution of whales.
