Watch the extended interview on Bilbao’s transformation: https://nebula.tv/videos/stewarthicks…

Most people think this building saved it’s city. The building is a branch museum of the famed Guggenheim, designed by Frank Gehry. The city is Bilbao Spain. And, this $100 million dollar building, paid for by the Spanish government, couped its cost in just 8 months. Today it generates around $300 million per year in tourist revenue. But, the building didn’t do it all by itself. Some believe it’s just the icing on the cake of a plan that had been baking for years. This video tells the story of the Guggenheim Bilbao and tries to get to the bottom of what exactly allowed this building to be such an unmitigated success while so many other copycats have failed.

BBC Radio 4 – Pick of the Week, Anna Phoebe

This week, Anna is hearing some STRONG language – that is, from the Strong Language Festival in Bradford, as well as language we should be wary of from the so-called manosphere. It’s also a question of linguistics for the animal kingdom on the World Service – are we closer to human-animal conversations, or is our excitement around AI in this field of research leading us to bark up the wrong tree? Plus, we revisit the moment Shostakovich was silenced by Stalin – and how Paul Simon brewed up a political storm with his album, Graceland.

Presenter: Anna Phoebe
Producer: Anthony McKee
Production Coordinators: Caroline Peddle and Caoilfhinn McFadden

A BBC Audio Northern Ireland production for BBC Radio 4.
